Hand in Hand

you can call me silly and naive,
maybe even selfish.
you can scoff at me
and debate ‘til the end of days
about the true nature of humans.
maybe you will be right.

but I still dream of a world,
a heaven on earth,
where the only thing that matters
is our hands outstretched,
lifting each other up,
so may we rise, together,
into the setting of the golden sun.

for there is such wonder
to discover about each other
and the wildflowers that sway
against the softness of our skin.

a world where none of us feel alone,
though we are but specks of dust.

for I know in my body,
a remembered feeling,
that this is how we began,
two atoms colliding,

and this is how we should end,
hand in hand.
