The Important Of Homework for Students

Homework is structured independent task that given by teacher to done by students at home as an extra exercise. The founder of home work is a teacher from Venice, named Roberto Neveilis. He start giving homework for his students that have many free time at home, but they are son of rich family and often do violation at school. For every violation have they done they must do homework from Roberto.

Homework not become punishment for naughty students now days, but it become planed programs from teachers, that planed to give extra knowledge for their students. Homework give some extra score for students.

Homework become controversial since student feel difficult to do homework and their parents unable to help them. And they don’t have enough time to do it. Researcher from duke university found that academic homework have no good effect to their school performance.Some people don’t really know how important homework is. Even some people think that homework just makes school life more difficult. Those matters what make some people plan to remove homework from curriculum, besides makes school life more difficult, homework reduce students time to study. That’s why some people think that homework is unimportant.

Homework is one of an instrument that used by teacher in teaching. Homework can help students to know and understand about what they learn. By giving homework teacher hope two way of teaching at home and at school can be reached.

Homework that given by teacher has a benefit for students. That can help them to learn about lesson’s concept. Homework trains students to have responsibility on their obligation. That’s why homework given in the form of exercise.

Homework is important especially when school time interrupted by national holyday, study tour, or other school’s annual activities. That can help the teacher to follow the system when time is running out.

to know how effective homework for students there are some important aspects. Marzano,R.J and his team in their book “Classroom Instruction that Works” shows that at least there are three important need to understand by teacher when giving homework.

1. Amount of homework that must be given in every level.Amount of homework that given to a junior high school’s student may not as much as homework that given to a senior high school’s student. Because they don’t have same ability to do homework

2. The role of parent in help students to done their homework.Parents role is to give facilitations that needed by student.

3. The purpose of homework must be clear and can be understood by student. Every form of home work is different. The purpose of giving homework is to prepare new materials or just for exercise.

4. Feedback for every home work that have given by teacher. In some research that have been done by Marzano, effectiveness and efficiency of homework is depend on how much feedback that have been given by the teacher. Homework that giving some feedback give better affect than homework that never give some feedback.

Teacher in US still debate about the benefit of giving homework. But, Prof. Harris Cooper from Duke University like reported by The Washington Post, he says that there is no relation between student’s understanding and homework, besides reading, now students start to change their mindset. Now Cooper says something else.

He declare, there are some proofs say that students can do exercise better when they do homework that relation with the test. Cooper as a psychologist says that students may not spend two hour to read book. They need to do some exercise to test their understanding.

Homework is important for students, besides that homework can be media to strengthen relations between students and their parents. Every week end parents can use homework to re-establish a relationship.

There are many ways that used by parents to persuade their kid to do their homework. According to psychologist opinion, parents need to give more attention, to help students in effective way, parents need to committed in process. Parents can support the students to do their homework.

Parents need to accompany the students in learning process at home. Every student want everything they do is known by their parent. Parents may not finish all of student’s homework. Because it means someone who done the homework is their parent. Teacher need to know what have been done by their students and know something difficult for their students.

Students commonly think that finishing their homework is boring, after they had a long day in school they still need to finish their home work. Homework becomes a burden for them. But for some students that like to do their home work, and do their home work seriously. Homework can help them to study. For them homework is important because it’s can help them to study about the lesson.

Homework not the only way for students in understands about the lesson. There are many way to study, and students need time to learn some things that make them interest. Homework force them to study about lesson that maybe not interesting for them. Students have their own way to study. Teacher can’t enforce them by giving them home work. Students have not enough time to study about what they want. That makes students lazy to do their home work.

To make students interest with the lesson is important. Difficult homework sometimes can make student more interested to study, but sometimes that can make student more lazy to study. There are many teaching method that can make lesson more interesting. Without homework students can learn more lesson, but if when students don’t have a homework they will forget to study at home.
